Waupun Area School District – SAGES
Modernize spaces for current models of learning + support the school’s program focus
The School of Agricultural and Environmental Design (SAGES) is Waupun Area School District’s Charter School for grades 4 through 6. Located in an older building, spaces were no longer able to support modern learning and the school’s unique program of study, which integrates gardens and natural resources into daily lessons.
To increase visibility, the exterior is accented with wood-like paneling reminiscent of the agricultural area. An easily identifiable main entry improves security, and upgraded parking provides a safer drop-off and pick-up area.
Inside, a new media center was added with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with daylight. Bright colors and patterns inspire, while reconfigurable seating allows students to move around. Glass-enclosed study rooms provide areas for small groups or more focused work. An adjacent classroom features a bi-fold door that opens into the media center. Classrooms are outfitted with flexible furniture and bi-fold doors that provide access to a small media center and connecting spaces to one another. Other additions include a food lab and demonstration area, a greenhouse and chicken coop where kids grow and prepare their own food.
