UW-Milwaukee Innovation Accelerator

Design that intersects industry with academic research to promote innovation for the new century

In 2011, the Economic Development Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, awarded a grant to the City of Wauwatosa and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Real Estate Foundation to construct Innovation Park’s first building – the UWM Innovation Accelerator. This building was conceived as a place where business and industry meets academic research to launch intellectual property for the new century.

Transparency and viewing rooms were used within several labs for learning and research purposes. Synergies were increased through layout and tenant placement, as well as shared spaces placed strategically to increase chance encounters. The building’s laboratory facilities are used by a wide variety of researchers and entrepreneurs who want to leverage the technology present in nearby institutions such as the Milwaukee County Medical Complex, Children’s Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin. A coffee alcove, a copy area and flexible seating areas create collaborative spaces and play host to community and UWM events.
