UW Hospital and Clinics – Inpatient Surgery
Complex phasing to support expansion efforts
Working closely with facilities staff and local contractors to confirm scope, budget, code and facility issues before moving into architectural design, EUA has completed more than 95 projects for the UW Hospitals and Clinics.
Recently EUA was challenged to significantly expand the Inpatient Surgery Department without disrupting operations. A comprehensive phasing plan was developed to address a variety of issues. The expansion was accomplished by renovating adjacent occupied spaces, making the owner’s schedule of vacating these spaces a key driver in the phasing plan. Other critical considerations included: maintaining a back-of-house route for transporting soiled materials; infection control and preservation of sterile/non-sterile separations and interim life safety. The increased number of rooms and bays triggered upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems that were completed without disturbing these other functions.
