Trinity Woods (formerly Oklahoma Methodist Manor) had an aging senior campus that included a dated nursing home and the absence of an upscale independent apartment that could compete with premier community care retirement communities.
Working closely with the owner, EUA helped Trinity Woods imagine a new entry courtyard featuring a flagship apartment residence that integrated a new wellness center, chapel and remaining administration buildings to create a new focal point for the rejuvenated campus master plan. While correcting difficult site conditions, EUA was able to create new pedestrian and traffic flow by establishing distinct entry points for residents, visitors and service vehicles. The EUA solution resulted in a fully connected continuing care retirement community (CCRC) that provides a full spectrum of lifestyle choices and life-enhancing wellness and health care services for residents. Reputation
Trinity Woods' healthcare facility has always been known for exceptional care but was housed within an outdated two-story institutional care model. The challenge was creating a more residential and intimate setting within the existing building while remaining operational during renovation. EUA developed a solution for six new skilled care households, complete with individual entries, living rooms, dining rooms, serving kitchens, sunrooms and direct access to their own private patio or balcony. The design allowed for new construction of households while occupying adjacent building wings and generating revenue. The updated facility, named The Crestwood was also able to capitalize on a new state of the art geothermal system, with individual heat pumps in each apartment, providing for separate heating and cooling controls along with fresh air distributed throughout the building.
Impact
Upon entering the new continuing care retirement care (CCRC) facility guests experience an impressive passageway into an inviting two-story lobby with a balcony overlook and 22-foot stone hearth. The lobby leads you toward the main dining areas with views extending out to the terrace gardens and patios. Outdoor patios provide additional seating complete with gardens, arbors, outdoor grilles and a fire pit. From the main lobby, you can also continue north and south to the four residential wings spanning out to maximize outdoor views and creating private courtyards. Apartments are designed with open floor plans, large operable windows that provide abundant daylight, and appealing finishes including granite countertops.
Outdoor Experience
A new exterior palette of stone and stucco was introduced to bring new enthusiasm to the dated red brick dominating the campus. Also, with safety and security always a priority, EUA was able to provide affordable under building parking for the Crestwood that was unusual for this region. Poorly used outdoor spaces were also improved, resulting in new safe and secure private gardens complete with shaded patios, landscape arbors, walking paths and a central labyrinth garden that provides a quiet space for reflection.
Wellness
Adding a new wellness center was a key component in completing Trinity Woods' expectations for a premier CCRC. The Spann Wellness Center is located in the heart of the campus and fully connected to the Crestwood. Separate secure entries are provided for resident access from all points of the campus. The pool area, accessed from the locker rooms, provides full views to the fitness areas, complete with a walking track and state-of-the art exercise equipment. Pool and fitness areas open to outdoor spaces including patios, gardens, shuffleboard and even a sport court that combines pickle ball and basketball.
