Sturgeon Bay School District
Renovating high school for secure main entrance + reallocating educational systems
The Sturgeon Bay School District engaged EUA to conduct a district-wide facility study to understand current conditions of their three elementary schools, middle and high school buildings. Like many school districts in rural areas of the state, the enrollment projections said the district would be stable and not increasing into the foreseeable future. The facility study found that the District’s elementary schools were operating under available capacity, allowing the opportunity to recognize staff and operational efficiencies by retiring one of their oldest buildings. With the completed study, EUA created a master plan and guided the District through the often-difficult prioritization process with a custom tool that evaluates elements of various building options and long-term maintenance items. This tool allowed the school board and administration to package a project that garnered community support. The successful referendum of April 2020 has allowed the District to complete:
• The addition of a secure entrance at the high school
• A new pre-function for the High School Auditorium and collaborative learning opportunities
• Upgrades to the career and technical education areas at the middle and high school
• A classroom addition at Sawyer Elementary School to accommodate the closing of Sunset School
• District-wide capital maintenance and renovations
• Remodeling at Sunrise Elementary School
