School District of Sheboygan Falls – Middle School

Blend the community’s heritage into different aspects of the school’s design

After serving students for over 100 years and in many different grade configurations, Sheboygan Falls' middle school was in need of being replaced. A successful referendum provided the funding to design and construct a new middle school on a site adjacent to the existing elementary school.

The school features flexible and innovative learning environments that can easily adapt to future learning techniques while allowing for adequate supervision. The design focuses on the concept of a “Learning River” that winds its way through the school similar to the town’s winding river it was built around. The river leads to each of the grade ‘villages’ representing the area’s identifying elements: falls, river, mills and lumber.

With the location of the new school near the existing elementary school, the project shows how two buildings on the same campus can be creatively and efficiently placed to provide safe traffic patterns.
