Oglethorpe University - Lupton Auditorium

Renovating an historical building for flexible, multi-use space

Oglethorpe University wanted to breathe new life into a space that was once an underused fixed-seat theatre with a raised stage into a flexible, multi-use space that used for music performances, small theatre productions, meetings, lectures or campus gatherings and events. EUA conducted a laser scan of the historic building to capture existing conditions and comprehensively plan for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing renovations required for the new space. A collaborative planning process was used with Oglethorpe stakeholders to develop the new space program.

The renovated Lupton Hall Auditorium space allows for a variety of student performances with tunable, dimmable, and programmable ambient lighting in addition to a variety of A/V equipment for ultimate flexibility to conduct hybrid online and in-person events such as speakers, microphones, recessed cameras, projector and recessed screen, and fixed monitors.

A behind-the-scenes corridor includes: an event catering kitchen, plethora of storage opportunities, and two, single-person, all-inclusive bathrooms.
