Oconomowoc Area School District – Ixonia Elementary School

Increase security, enhance connection to the community + elevate learning

To keep pace with current and future modes of teaching and learning, Ixonia Elementary underwent a renovation and addition, transforming spaces into flexible and collaborative environments and providing the community with a treasured asset.

To elevate the school’s identity in the community, the building is immediately identifiable with large windows and exposed wood beams that pay homage to the area’s rural farming community. A more welcoming and accessible entrance includes a new ADA ramp, greater security and front-facing administration offices.

Inside, spaces are open, airy and flooded with daylight. The cafeteria, which doubles as a multipurpose space for school and community functions, is lively with bright pops of color, acoustical panels that mimic raindrops, and movable seating in a variety of vibrant shades. Expansive windows provide substantial daylight and views to the outdoor learning and play areas.

The kindergarten wing addition is located near the administration office for increased supervision and security. This active learning environment includes a variety of flexible and mobile furnishings, allowing teachers to easily reconfigure rooms, and provide students a choice of where to sit and how to interact with each other.
