Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin - Community Center*

Encourage a healthy + active lifestyle within the community

A multi-generational community center to gather, celebrate, engage, and build a culture of health for all generations. This is the purpose behind the new Center for the Menominee Indian Tribe of WI (MITW). For youth and elders alike, nutrition, fitness, social connection, and health issues are key challenges. This space creates a location and a place for the Tribe to share stories, encourage healthy lifestyles, transmit language, culture, and build stronger relationships.

The 64,000 sq ft building is designed around indoor and outdoor spaces large enough for concurrent events to engage the community. No space is seen with only a single purpose: the two NCAA regulation size basketball courts can be broken down into four smaller courts for basketball, volleyball, and more. Bleacher seating for 800, combined with additional floor seating, provides the Menominee Tribe with its largest indoor facility for sporting events, pow wows, and other celebrations. An indoor running track, spacious fitness center, seminar spaces, fitness rooms, a youth recreation room, and offices for the Youth Development Organization department make the building a central activity hub for community members of all ages. The design is laser focused on helping each person elevate their purpose by providing an opportunity for everyone to have equal access to a state-of-the-art facility and to each other. The youngest have a small indoor playground, runners and walkers have a three-lane running track, while seminar and youth spaces are available for kids to do schoolwork, and the community to meet both in person and via technology with other Tribal members who live or work remote. Every element supports mind and body engagement.
