Middleton Cross Plains Area School District – Pope Farm Elementary School
Putting modern learning on display within a collaborative + exploratory environment
Due to increased enrollment, the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) is building a new elementary school to meet capacity needs across the existing District elementary schools. This new school, located adjacent to Pope Farm Conservancy, is built into a hill to preserve panoramic views of the State Capitol and Lake Mendota. The metal and brick exterior materials mimic the landscape of the nearby conservancy, blending the design of the school into its natural surroundings.
Pope Farm Elementary School emphasizes modern learning through flexible and collaborative spaces. EUA worked with District staff and teachers to design functional spaces that meet their curriculum needs with moveable glass walls between to allow for increased transparency and connection. The library media center was designed to be a confluence of creativity, featuring a makerspace, computer lab and areas for group work. A bridge spans from one side to the other connecting across the second floor. With a desire to be a green-thinking District, Pope Farm is designed with energy-efficient and sustainable solutions.
