Komatsu Mining Corporation Headquarters
Infusing brand + efficiency to create a world-class facility for the future
EUA led the design of Komatsu Mining Corp's South Harbor Campus, which houses their new headquarters in the heart of Milwaukee’s Harbor District. It is the largest urban manufacturing project of its kind in the country. The project is an investment in the future of Milwaukee and Wisconsin and is forecasted to create and retain a total of 1,000 jobs in a remarkable workplace for the future setting. The campus, located along the waterfront and featuring a public riverwalk, includes a company museum, research and training center and two-story automation lab in the office building, with a four-level parking structure standing between the office and manufacturing facilities.
With sustainability and energy conservation as a key driver for the project, EUA partnered with GRAEF to design a facility expected to use 75 percent less electricity and 80 percent less water than the company’s former headquarters. The office component of the project is LEED Gold certified and utilizes several sustainable strategies including rainwater collection, a green roof system and ice storage for off-peak colling. The entire campus utilizes extensive photovoltaic, wind turbines, closed-loop heat treat system and other innovative sustainable solutions.
