History and sustainability on display
J.F. Ahern Co., a 100-year-old, family-run mechanical and fire protection contractor, required a Milwaukee headquarters where they could better serve their clients, enhance their brand, and retain and attract new talent. Ahern found the Menomonee Valley to be an excellent fit for geographic location and brand visibility.
An important element for the company and brand was to create a visible statement through architecture showcasing their product and sustainability expertise along Canal Street. This was achieved by designing a glass box on the southwest corner of the new construction building to highlight its brightly painted mechanical systems and monitoring system that calculates all of the building's energy savings and use. This is a living, sustainable teaching tool for existing and future clients. The project achieved LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.
