Historic Elitch Theatre
Continuing the legacy
Opened in 1891, the historic Elitch Theatre is located on the former site of Denver’s Elitch Gardens amusement park. With its last production in 1991, the historic theatre has remained vacant for almost 30 years. EUA just completed a renovation to the building to serve as a community center and functioning theatre once again.
Much of the current rehabilitation project has included adding public, accessible restrooms, restoring exterior lighting and paint, enhancing plumbing and various aethetics upgrades. The theatre now has a certificate of occupancy from the City of Denver, allowing the foundation to host events in the space once again, spurring more activity and donations for continued progress. The building will continue to operate as a seasonal facility, but sustainable measures were put in place to enhance outside airflow to ensure staff, patron and performer comfort.

Fun Fact: They say Mary Elitch herself still haunts the Historic Elitch Theatre. Flowers are left in her empty box at each performance in honor of her presence. |
