Froedtert Community Hospital - Oak Creek
Expand reach of services beyond the main hospital campus
The Froedtert Community Hospital - Oak Creek marks a future phase of the Froedtert Drexel Town Square Health Center Master Plan. By adding locally offered emergency services, inpatient + observation spaces, labs and a pharmacy in the community hospital setting, it reduces reliance on the main hospital, and expands the system’s capacity to serve more community members.
Froedtert’s objective for the new Community Hospital was to provide quality emergency care closer to home for patients living in southeast Wisconsin. To support efficient staff mobility, the micro hospital was designed with centrally located staff and support spaces surrounded by patient and family areas along the perimeter of the facility. The layout allows staff to serve both ED and inpatient units, along with consolidating supplies and maximizing shared medical equipment.
Due to its construction taking place during the COVID-19 lockdown, the team encountered shortages and delays in receiving construction materials, which created obstacles throughout. However, the flexibility of team members, clear paths of decision making and the redistribution of responsibilities ultimately made the project a success.
