DeForest Area School District - DeForest Area High School

Modernize existing school to improve cohesion, circulation + wayfinding

EUA conducted a facilities assessment looking at building capacities, the educational adequacy of existing schools and master planning options. These options were presented to the DASD Board and stakeholders. Final solutions included closing of a school while also designing a new intermediate school, renovations to the elementary and high schools and renovation to the middle school including a district office.

At DeForest Area High School, the design includes a needed cafeteria expansion and a renovation / addition to the building for athletics. Taking their existing pool, cafeteria and gym box, EUA has turned this space into a new commons area. The previous cafeteria was too small for the District’s need and was often overcrowded; with the expansion, students are now able to go to different food stations offering more options and multiple points of sale. Additional spaces adjacent to the main cafeteria provide additional seating through a student-run coffee shop, a Grab and Go option and a connection area between the North and South commons. An addition onto the high school now houses a new pool and gym.
