Leading-edge cancer care focused on the patient experience
To meet their patients’ unique needs, Ascension wanted to develop a leading-edge cancer center with a focus on elevating the patient experience and providing access to research-based treatment options. During the planning phase, EUA facilitated a patient focus group to understand the ideal patient experience and implemented a lean-led design process to discover operational improvement opportunities that could be supported by the new design and bring the best care to the patient. Throughout the process, EUA worked with the contractor to develop a phasing schedule that kept services open to patients while the project was completed.
The infusion bay includes open, semi-private and private options with adjustable seating and a combination of curtains and sliding screens to allow for various levels of privacy. The building features a rooftop terrace that allows patients and family to go outside, but remain close to treatment areas. Skylights were added to create a comfortable and welcoming environment and allow natural light into the infusion area where windows were not possible.
