In August 2019, EUA signed on to the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) 2030 Sustainability Commitment, ensuring all new buildings, developments and major renovations are designed to meet a fossil fuel, GHG-emitting, energy consumption performance standard of 70% below the regional (or country) average/median for that building type resulting in being carbon neutral by the year 2030 using no fossil fuel GHG emitting energy to operate.
One of the key components to becoming a signatory to the AIA 2030 Commitment is crafting a Sustainability Action Plan (SAP). It acts as an information sharing platform that enables communication of firm values to clients and peers.
“Throughout my time at EUA I have seen a growing energy and emphasis among our team members to bring mindful and sustainable solutions to our clients. Sustainability is no longer an option when it comes to architecture and interior design, it is a requirement. I look forward to what this commitment will do for our team and clients.” Kristin Dufek, Vice President
Sustainability was already an established core value and focus at EUA with over 20 percent of the design staff earning their LEED Accredited Professional credential, over 30 certified and registered projects and projects pursuing the WELL Building certification. EUA has a sustainability committee with representatives from the various market sectors working towards ensuring that designs are being tested and using the newest energy management tools to be sustainable.
With over 400 projects across the firm each year, that is over 400 opportunities to make a positive impact on the environment and future.
