MILWAUKEE, WI, December 10, 2018 Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) held the 14th Annual Beyond Design Bike Tour (BDBT) on September 20, 2018, raising over $100,000 with proceeds benefitting local charities Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (FAEW) and Food for Thought Initiative (Food4ti). Each year, the BDBT and Eppstein Uhen Foundation select local charities that support children and families, advance education, reduce hunger, improve safety or assist in solving other community issues.

“Many thanks to Eppstein Uhen Architects for making Food for Thought Initiative a recipient of this year’s Beyond Design Bike Tour fundraiser,” wrote Kirstin Reeser on the Food4ti website. “We had a blast volunteering and we couldn’t be more grateful.

The Eppstein Uhen Foundation strives to surpass the previous year’s fundraising through sponsorships by EUA’s business partners as well as the contributions raised by individual riders and the silent auction. This year’s ride had nearly 400 registered riders and over 50 sponsors. Over the past 14 years, the ride has netted over $720,000 in charitable giving to various local Wisconsin organizations.

Rich Tennessen, EUA’s President said, “The Beyond Design Bike Tour continues to exceed expectations as it brings together a large group of our clients, partners, friends and employees to support these worthy charities. We are extremely grateful to give back to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and Food for Thought Initiative and we look forward to continuing to see the differences they are making in our communities.”

With the continued success of the Beyond Design Bike Tour, stay tuned for the date of next year’s ride.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (FAEW) is the leading hunger relief organization in the state with locations in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. Founded in 1982 by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, FAEW is a local and independent member of the Feeding America network. Driven by their mission to solve hunger and a vision of a hunger free Wisconsin, FAEW are bringing people together around the table to collaboratively address the root causes of hunger. Together with 600+ member organizations, FAEW serves nearly 400,000 people in eastern Wisconsin each year, including 124,000 children and 41,000 seniors. Proceeds from this year’s ride will support Farm Link, a program building connections between businesses and local farmers to access surplus fresh and local produce to be distributed to those in need.

Food for Thought Initiative (Food4TI) is an organization that believes students should be hungry to learn, not hungry. In partnership with Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), Food4TI aims to improve food access and alleviate hunger among schools with a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Launching their 4th in-school pantry in July 2018, Food4TI is committed to opening an in-school pantry every school year to provide healthy food choices to students and their families. Inspired by Thea Aschkenase, who survived Auschwitz and now dedicates herself to hunger, Thea’s Table provides weekend meals to the neediest students in the district, providing over 60,000 meals over the last two years and currently supporting over 40 families every week with the hopes of expanding.
