United Hospital System plans to start construction this spring on a major expansion of St. Catherine’s Medical Center campus in Pleasant Prairie for an advanced outpatient surgical wing.
The Kenosha-based system received Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approval Monday for preliminary site and operational plans to construct the four-story, 239,977-square-foot addition to the medical center at 9555 76th St. The approval enables site grading and installing footings, foundations and underground utilities, the village said in a press release.
The total square footage approved Monday is about 45,000 square feet more than the village approved in October 2016 for United Hospital System’s conceptual plan. A cost estimate was not immediately available.
Preliminary plans call for an addition adjacent to the existing hospital that will include a minimum of eight surgical suites, private pre-operative suites and space for other outpatient services, the village said.
United Hospital System is expected to submit final site and operational plans later this spring, the village said. The project will be complete during 2018 and the new wing will add 100 to 125 employees at the complex.
