Local officials have broken ground on a new Prairie Village Community Center for seniors in Whitewater.
The new community center is scheduled to open next summer at 925 Burr Oak Trail, according to a news release. It will be about 8,000 square feet and will feature a gathering hall, catering kitchen, refreshment area, fitness room, game room, a four-season sun room and two outdoor patios.
The center will serve residents of Prairie Village, a senior living facility that opened in 2006 and caters to people ages 55 and older. The facility is part of Fairhaven Senior Services, a facility that offers a range of living options and services for older adults, Paul Kuenning, president of Fairhaven, said in an email.
“The community center has been in the planning stages for many years for Prairie Village and will be an integral part of residents’ community life at Prairie Village,” Kuenning said.
Eppstein Uhen Architects of Milwaukee designed the community center. Ehlert Construction of Whitewater is among the project’s contractors, according to the release.
