Ground was broken Tuesday at the site of a new elementary school in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.
Pope Farm Elementary School will be built next to Pope Farm Conservancy.
The land was purchased back in 2005, but two referenda failed to get a new school built.
Community support came in the last election when a referendum was passed for the K-4 school.
Superintendent George Mavroulis says schools are getting overcrowded. “We’ve had record growth. We’ve been averaging 150-200 student increase per year, over the last five to ten years and we’re projected to continue to grow into the future.”
The new building will house more than 500 students.
It will be ready by the 2020 school year.
