CHARITIES

Camp One Step LogoCamp One Step. For 42 years they been providing camp program opportunities for children who've been diagnosed with cancer so that they can meet, connect, find community and support with their peers outside a hospital setting. Camp One Step's mission is to bring back the joy of childhood that cancer took away. At camp, kids can be kids, meet others going through similar challenges, find hope and support, reclaim their joy, and find themselves again. They offer 11 free in-person camp programs available throughout the year serving kids who've been diagnosed with cancer or a brain tumor, and a few specialty camp programs which also serve their family members - as a pediatric cancer diagnosis affects the entire family and everyone needs support. About half of their in-person programs are held at sites located in Wisconsin, and they also offer some travel camp opportunities further away as well. More than half of the campers served live in Illinois while the next largest percentage live in Wisconsin, as well as some children from surrounding states.

Shining Stars Foundation logoShining Stars Foundation. Since 2001, they have been providing year-round recreational and social programs for children and their families challenged with pediatric cancer or another life-threatening illness. They provide programs at not cost to the child or their families, serving not only the child, but their entire immediate family, including siblings and parents. Annually, 60+ outdoor, social and recreational experiences are provided including adaptive skiing, hiking, snowmobiling, rafting, biking, cooking, swimming, climbing, sailing and so much more. These programs provide long-term, year-round care for children and their families through recreational programming at any stage in their cancer battle, including treatment, relapse, or remission.
