Alverno College, a prominent women's college located in Milwaukee's south side, had a need to expand their science laboratory and technology programs as well as the colleges conferencing and seminar facilities. By adding to the west side of the existing main college building, EUA created a facility that has become the new front door to the college, directly connecting to the existing liberal arts building which is Averno’s eastern main entrance.
A two story domed rotunda marks the entrance and has become a favorite informal gathering place for students and faculty as well as a crossroads connecting the laboratory and technology wing of the new building with the conferencing/seminar facilities. Contemporary brick, precast concrete and glass walls are accented by arched and domed copper roofs to reflect Averno’s eye to the future will respecting and reflecting the schools storied past. With this building, EUA has created a new forward-looking image for the campus that reflects the university’s optimism for the future.
